It’s beginning to look like Autumn in Melbourne

Continuing my journey by air from Sunshine Coast to Melbourne, I was greeted with a different weather. Melbourne was experiencing autumn season and the temperature can get as low as 11 degree celsius with occasional showers of rain but the sceneries were spectacular! (for someone from a tropical country, it’s an eye opening experience) Here are the top things to do at Melbourne if you are there during autumn! Please bundle up while attempting the following activities 😀

1. Cafe hopping

What better way to avoid the chilly weather than to embrace the cafe culture here while ordering a cup of caffeine tailored made locally in Melbourne. Just pop in to any of the quirky and quaint cafe and you will be in awe.

2. Exhibitions at NGV Melbourne

After having your caffeine fix, the next thing you can do is to enjoy the exhibitions available at National Gallery of Victoria or better known as NGV. I was fortunate enough to catch the Van Gogh and the Seasons exhibition and the queue to go in was drastically long. It features several of Van Gogh’s masterpieces and through it I was able to see what each season means to him.

3. Fitzroy Garden

Melbourne pride itself with many of its gardens and parks all around and it would be a shame not to have a stroll while enjoying the autumn leaves and chilly weather. Fitzroy Garden is particularly a popular location for wedding photoshoot (I guess?) as I saw at least 3 blissfully wedded couple having their photos taken there. It’s also a great location for nature lovers as there is a conservatory at the garden.

4. Dandenong Ranges & Alfred Nicholas Memorial Garden

Another good way to enjoy the autumn leaves is to head up to Dandenong Ranges. Initially we wanted to visit the National Rhododendron Gardens but with the rain it was quite impossible to go down without being wet. Besides I couldnt resist the warm seats in the car. So we decided to head out to Alfred Nicholas Memorial Garden which was somewhere nearby. There were so many pretty fallen yellow autumn leaves on the ground as well as on the trees.

5. Abbotsford Convent

Another place worth mentioning is the Abbotsford Convent because of the medieval design of the building. It felt as if you were transported back to 19th century during the stroll around the place. Now its building is used as a art, cultural and educational hub. One of the reason I like it is because at every corner there is always an opportunity to take instagram worthy photos!

These are the few things you can do while you are in Melbourne! Other exciting activities worth trying besides the mentioned ones are Lilydale Lake:Kayaking and catching a musical at Melbourne (I went for Aladdin Musical and it was jaw dropping!) or even drop by at Brunswick to snap up some bargains at a line of thrift stores there!
